Issue 5: The Newsletter Strikes Back

Hello,

So, it's been a while. Eleven months, if you're counting, which I suspect you weren't (no offence taken).

In my defence, I did flag in the last issue that I was running out of movie franchises with more than three instalments. What I didn't mention was that finding a worthy fifth would take the best part of a year.

Stars Wars Episode V, the good one, where everybody finds out some fairly confronting things about their family. Which, now I think about it, is a decent summary of what a lot of our clients walk in the door with.

We haven't spent the time in a swamp on Dagobah lifting rocks with our minds, either – keep scrolling for a rundown of what we’ve been up to.

We're going to try to be a bit more regular from here. On the bright side, Issue 6 already has a title, which is more forward planning than has gone into anything else in this newsletter.

Thanks again,

Jordan and Nathan

PS: If the Titanic meme wasn't your thing, think of this as Arnie's "I'll be back", just with a much longer gap than anyone had in mind.

The round up this month

How we've helped Jacqui & Jim

Jacqui and Jim had done just about everything right with their money. What they didn't have was the confidence to stop working and actually enjoy it. This one's about the tax savings, sure, but mostly it's about a resignation letter.

What we've been up to

We tend to do a lot of stuff each month, and September was no exception: four new episodes of Challenge the Standard, a couple of appearances in IFA, and Nathan's been named an FAAA awards finalist (no pressure, Nathan). Here's the full rundown.

Meet Chris

If you or your clients have anything to do with an SMSF, you'll want to know Chris McMullen. He's an SMSF auditor who actually knows his stuff and holds himself to a very high standard, which, in a world of tick-the-box auditing, is rarer than it should be.

Worth a read

This month we’re sending you over to Slipstream’s ‘Steal Our Stuff’ page, which is exactly what it sounds like: a pile of free guides and workbooks you’re actively encouraged to pinch. It’s written for accounting and advisory firms, but a few of them are useful for just about any practice.

You might also like to check out the 'How We Help' page, where we outline all the ways we can help you help your clients.

Cheers,

Jordan and Nathan

View this email in your browser I’ve Been Working on Something Important Hi Reader, Over the past little while, I’ve been working on something that’s very close to my heart. It’s called the Green Box Exercise – and having worked together for a while, I wanted you to hear about it directly from me. Over the years, I’ve seen first-hand how difficult things can become for families when someone passes away and there isn’t a clear record of what’s where. Even in well-organised households,...

Hello, Is it exciting, depressing, or anxiety-inducing to know that there are 64 days to the end of the calendar year - and 52 until the Friday before Christmas? Exciting, hopefully, because you have a clear run of easily deliverable jobs to get out. All while striking the perfect balance between end-of-year social engagements and comfortable productivity, before walking into the sunset of a long, relaxing, summer holiday. We certainly hope this is the case for you, and you're year-end isn't...

Hello, Didn't take too long to fall off the (self-imposed) schedule. But I will say that this one's a bit late because I've taken the drastic step of having a few days of leave last week. Anyway, we're back for this threequel in the newsletter series - extra points if you know the movie series this month's subject name is from. One thing we haven't included in this month's Activity page is how many professionals I've spoken to recently that share my desire to be able to just extract thoughts...
